The Syrian Australian Community Council (SACC) is a community-led, not-for-profit organisation established to represent, support, and empower Syrians living in Australia while strengthening their connection to the broader Australian society.

Our Council was formed in response to the growing need for a unified, credible, and inclusive body that advocates for the interests of the Syrian Australian community and works collaboratively with government, civil society, and multicultural institutions. We are committed to fostering social cohesion, civic participation, and cultural understanding—values that sit at the heart of Australia’s multicultural identity.

Our Purpose:

The Syrian Australian Community Council exists to serve as a bridge between communities, cultures, and institutions. We aim to support Syrian Australians as they build secure, meaningful, and successful lives in Australia, while also recognising and celebrating their cultural heritage and contributions to the nation.

We believe strong communities are built through inclusion, education, dialogue, and opportunity. Our work is guided by respect for Australia’s democratic values and a deep commitment to community wellbeing.

Our Vision:

To see a thriving, empowered Syrian Australian community that actively contributes to Australia’s social, cultural, and economic fabric, while fostering positive connections between Australia and the Syrian people.

Our Mission:

  • Support Syrian Australians through community programs, education, and advocacy

  • Promote social cohesion and multicultural harmony within Australian society

  • Empower youth, women, and vulnerable community members

  • Act as a trusted liaison between the Syrian community, government agencies, and service providers

  • Encourage civic participation, leadership, and positive representation

What We Do:

The Council’s activities span several key areas:

Community Empowerment:
We work to address challenges facing Syrian Australians, including access to services, education, employment pathways, and community support, especially for newly arrived and vulnerable individuals.

Social Cohesion and Cultural Engagement:
Through cultural events, forums, and public dialogue, we promote mutual understanding and celebrate Syrian culture as an integral part of Australia’s multicultural landscape.

Youth and Education Initiatives:
We place a strong focus on education, leadership development, and the role of young people in shaping inclusive, resilient communities. Education is central to building bridges across cultures and generations.

Advocacy and Partnerships:
The Council engages constructively with government, NGOs, and community organisations to advocate for policies and initiatives that support social inclusion, community safety, and long-term integration.

Our Values:

  • Inclusivity – embracing diversity within the Syrian community and beyond

  • Respect – upholding dignity, cultural identity, and shared values

  • Collaboration – working in partnership with institutions and communities

  • Integrity – acting transparently, responsibly, and in the public interest

  • Empowerment – enabling individuals and families to thrive

Looking Ahead:

The Syrian Australian Community Council is committed to building a positive future—one grounded in hope, opportunity, and shared responsibility. By strengthening community connections and encouraging meaningful participation, we strive to ensure that Syrian Australians continue to enrich Australia’s multicultural story for generations to come.
